The Business equivalent of the Nature/Nurture argument
is whether, with training and support anyone can excel
within the role or whether you simply have to have the
right people in the first place.

In other words, if you want to outperform the market
should you invest in Talent Acquisition or Talent
Management?

After more than ten years of running a business I’ve
learnt the hard way. In my opinion, no amount of
training and support will work if you don’t have exactly
the right person to start with and there’s no point
attracting the right Talent if they then don’t have the
tools to do the job.

It takes a rounded approach. Invest time in clearly
defining what you want in terms of Talent. Work hard to
drive this Talent towards you rather than your
competitors. Then work equally hard to make sure that
they feel stretched, motivated and above all that they
feel a significant part of driving force within your
organisation.

So, align yourselves with an intelligent recruitment
partner and attract the right Talent from all channels.
Work with impressive Management Coaches to make sure
your Talent performs.

It’s certainly true that this day and age, it’s less
about whether or not someone can do your job and more
about whether they want to, but desire is wasted effort
unless it is partnered by ability.
